Book an appointment

If you need to see your GP, then you can book an appointment by calling the surgery on 01237 471071. We kindly ask that you discuss one problem per appointment. If you wish to discuss more than one problem, please book another appointment or ask for a double appointment.

How to book an appointment

Book an appointment by calling reception on 01237 471071. You’ll be able to choose the type of appointment you need.

Types of appointments

At Wooda Surgery, we offer different appointments to help you get the care you need as soon as possible.

Please note you can no longer book appointments online. However, there is an Electronic Consultation service available.

Routine appointments

We aim to book with your usual doctor for continuity.

Urgent appointments

If your appointment is urgent, we’ll arrange for a GP to speak to you on the same day.

You can also call NHS 111 for general medical advice.

Improved Access

We are offering appointments to patients from across North Devon from 8.00am to 8.30am, and 6pm to 8pm on Monday to Friday and also on Saturday and Sunday mornings. These appointments are offered by GP practices on a shared rota, and enable patients to book a routine morning, evening and weekend appointment with a Doctor, Nurse, Health Care Assistant or Community Pharmacist. You may find it helpful to check the list of things a pharmacist can treat without needing to visit a GP.  You can book an improved access appointment via our reception team on 01237 471071.

Usual Doctor Policy

The Wooda Surgery believes that health care is best delivered by having one GP responsible for an individual patient’s care. We call this the Usual Doctor system and every patient registered with the Wooda Surgery has a Usual/Named Doctor. It will not always be possible for a patient to speak to the Usual Doctor but the next available appointment with the Usual Doctor is the first option to consider when requesting an appointment.

If you do not know who your Usual Doctor is, please contact the Reception team.

The Emergency Care Doctor

If your problem is an emergency that cannot wait for the next time your usual doctor is in the surgery, the doctors take turns to act as Emergency Care Doctor. Bear in mind that if your doctor is the Emergency Care Doctor that morning or afternoon, they will be unable to take routine calls.

We apologise but the Emergency Care Doctor does not give out routine (non-urgent) blood and radiology results.
